Time to stop prefacing Crime with “Cyber”

Neil Schwartzman in his article Kidnapping, Theft and Rape Are Not “Cyber” Crimes says:

The courts need to make it clear that that’s wrong in all respects.

And that;

This will not happen so long as crime, which involves the Internet, is dismissed as “cybercrime”…This is crime. It is time to call a cop, and expect a response.

His argument partly leads from the premise that it benefits Governments and Military to downplay the threat of Online Crime so they can focus on Cyberwarfare instead. He may be right about that.

But I don’t believe it is an either/or situation.

Crime is crime and criminals are criminals. Time to make the conversation say so.
